Reliability should be designed into every facility. Of course, this is equivalent to saying a parachute should be included in every jump from a plane. After all, who intentionally damages project economics by designing in unreliability? Despite this, many final designs have missed opportunities to substantially improve project economics through applying reliability design principles.
