In July 2007, the article entitled, “Biofuels: What is beyond ethanol and biodiesel?” began the quest to investigate how biofuels will be incorporated into the transportation fuel supply. This article provides a status assessment on the replacement of hydrocarbon-based fuels, chemicals and polymers with carbohydrate and lipid-based materials.
