C&I Engineering has completed the startup of what is said to be the world’s only dimethyl sulfide (DMS) plant, which is a cooperative venture between Hunt Refining Co. and Gaylord Chemical Co. LLC. C&I Engineering developed the process technology and provided pilot-plant design and testing, detailed design, procurement and startup services. Construction was completed on the 50 million-lbs/yr plant in June 2010. DMS production began in August 2010, and its quality reportedly exceeds available reagent-grade material.
