When to coat was the dilemma SemCrude faced as the company was adding new oil storage tanks to its Cushing, Oklahoma, tank farm (Fig. 1). Futures oil prices were moving forward by as much as $1.60/bbl a month. Customers needed tanks to store oil to take advantage of the price increases. Bringing new tanks online as fast as possible was key to both SemCrude and customer profits.
