Technip was awarded a services contract by BP Zhuhai Chemical Co., a joint venture of BP and Zhuhai Port Co., for the front-end design of a new world-scale purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant at their site in Guangdong Province, China.

This contract will be developed by an integrated Technip-client team, the companies said.

The new plant (Zhuhai 3) will have a capacity of 1.25 million tpy, use BP’s latest proprietary technology and is expected to come on stream during 2014, subject to final approvals from shareholders and related government authorities, officials said.

Technip’s operating center in Rome, Italy, will execute the contract, which is scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2012.

This award falls within the framework of the on-going alliance between BP and Technip for PTA and follows Technip’s completion of Zhuhai 1 and 2 plants, Zhuhai 2 expansion project as well as of the basic design development of Zhuhai 3 plant.
