Siemens Industry Automation Division is providing Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Co. (Takreer) with a Zimpro wet-air oxidation (WAO) system to treat refinery spent caustic as part of Takreer’s refinery expansion in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, UAE. The WAO system will treat odorous sulfides and produce biodegradable effluent for discharge to the facility’s effluent-treatment plant. The expansion project is scheduled to be complete by late 2013.
The refinery expansion project will increase crude-oil refining capacity by 417,000 bpd, using the latest advanced technology for downstream processing units to produce higher-quality products and to comply with UAE and international environmental standards. The Zimpro WAO system will be part of the new downstream units.
Subsidiaries of Foster Wheeler AG’s Global Engineering and Construction Group have been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) contract by Aramco Overseas Co., B.V. (AOC), a subsidiary of Saudi Aramco, and Dow Europe Holding B.V., for a propylene-oxide (PO) unit at Jubail Industrial City, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
This unit will be part of a world-scale, fully integrated chemicals complex, one of the largest of its kind in the world, which will be constructed, owned and operated by Sadara Chemical Co., a joint venture between Saudi Aramco and Dow. This contract has been awarded as an extension to the front-end engineering design (FEED) contract awarded to Foster Wheeler by AOC and Dow in 2008.
The world-scale unit is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2015.
Saudi Basic Industries Corp. (SABIC) has signed a TDI and MDI technology license agreement with Mitsui Chemicals, Inc., in keeping with the company’s strategic plan to be a global leader in polyurethane (PU) and serve its customers with value-added services, solutions and products. Under the agreement, Mitsui will provide manufacturing technology for producing TDI and MDI, which are both raw materials for producing PU. The agreement also provides for joint technology development in TDI/MDI.
Mohamed Al-Mady, SABIC vice chairman and CEO, pointed out that Mitsui Chemicals has a long experience as a manufacturer of TDI and MDI, and has, over the years, developed pioneering manufacturing processes. “Through this technology license agreement, we will strengthen our product capabilities with high-quality TDI and MDI and expand into the polyurethane business,” he said.
Toshikazu Tanaka, Mitsui Chemicals president and CEO, commented, “For Mitsui Chemicals, this license agreement will be the largest and most extensive one we have ever made. We will support this project full force on every front and are committed to its success.
