Maximizing transportation fuel yield and profitability continues to be the refiner’s primary objective. The heart of the typical gasoline producing refinery, the fluid catalytic cracking unit (FCCU), must be operated at maximum capacity to meet this objective. The FCCU has a significant impact on refinery economics due to its large contribution to the gasoline pool and overall volume expansion. As a result, small, incremental improvements to yields or throughput will have a positive impact on refinery profitability.
