Indian Oil has selected an Axens process technology for the production of high purity 1-butene by ethylene dimerization.  Axens will incorporate a 20,000-tpy-capacity unit at Indian Oil’s naphtha cracker complex located in Panipat, Haryana, India. Panipat is the location of Indian Oil’s top line refinery and its largest naphtha steam cracker.

Based on homogeneous catalysis and associated with a low investment cost, this Axens process technology is designed and optimized to ensure a flexible and reliable source of 1-butene, a co-monomer for downstream polymer units. This unit is one of three recently licensed in India.
