Alfa Laval has won an order for compact
heat exchangers from a refinery in Russia. The order,
valued at approximately SEK 70 million, was booked late
September 2012, and delivery is scheduled for 2013.
The Alfa Laval compact heat exchangers will be used in the
vacuum section of the crude-oil distillation, where they will
preheat the feed stream reusing heat from other parts of the
process, thereby resulting in an energy-efficient process
Victrex Polymer Solutions plans to increase
its production capacity of Victrex Paek polymers by adding
2,900 metric tpy of polymer output. After completion in early
2015, the total annual production of Victrex Paek polymers will
stand at more than 7,000 metric tpy, an increase of around 70%
on Victrexs current capacity of 4,250 metric tpy.
This new, stand-alone and independent third Victrex plant
will be located at the companys headquarters in the UK.
In addition, to support this expansion of polymers, Victrex will
also update its integrated supply chain for the key raw
material for manufacturing Victrex Paek polymers.
Hi-Bis GmbH, in Bitterfeld, Germany, has
decided to invest approximately 50 million in a second
BP-TMC plant, since the first plant has been successfully
operating for eight years.
As was the case with the first plant, producing the base
material to make Apec (an extremely heat-resistant,
high-performance plastic), both EDL Anlagenbau
Gesellschaft (as the plant engineering company) and
Toyo Engineering Corp. (as supplier of the
plant) have been awarded the associated contracts. EDL will
perform all detail engineering services for the Hi-Bis2 project. According to the time
schedule, the engineering work will be completed by July 2013.
Commissioning is scheduled for the spring of 2014.
Solvay and SIBUR have
agreed to establish Ruspav, a 50/50 joint
venture for producing surfactants and oilfield process
chemicals in Dzerzhinsk, Russia.
Ruspav will be located near SIBURs petrochemicals operations, 400 km
east of Moscow, and is expected to be operational in 2015.
Demand for surfactants in the CIS is growing at more than 6%
SIBUR will contribute its raw materials, production and
logistics capabilities to the joint venture. It will also
support the development of the surfactants business in oil and
gas markets in Russia and the CIS. Solvays
Novecare will provide its expertise in
surfactant technologies, its knowledge of formulations and
market applications, and its customer network, including key
global accounts with a strong presence in the region.
Uhde Inventa-Fischer will build a
432,000-tpy polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plant for
JBF Industries Ltd. in Geel, Belgium. The
plant will produce high-quality PET for bottling and packaging
applications. BP Chembel N.V. will produce and
supply feedstock purified terephthalic acid
(PTA) on the same site.
JBF Industries Ltd. will produce top-quality PET pellets
based on Uhde Inventa-Fischers state-of-the-art,
energy-efficient, patented Melt-To-Resin (MTR) technology. Integration of a 54,000-tpy
Flakes-To-Resin (FTR) recycling line will also allow 25% of the
PTA required for the production of PET to be replaced with
Uhde Inventa-Fischers scope of supplies includes the
know-how license for the MTR and FTR technologies, the basic
and detail engineering, supply of all plant components, and
supervision of the construction and commissioning
activities. The operating personnel will also be trained by
Uhde Inventa-Fischers experienced specialists. The detail
engineering for the project will be carried out by Uhde
Inventa-Fischer and Uhde India Private Ltd.
Ube Industries, Ltd. will build additional
manufacturing capacity for nylon 6 at its subsidiary,
Ube Engineering Plastics S.A. of Spain, to
meet growing demand for high-value-added nylon in the European
and North American markets. The expansion will add 10,000 tpy of
production capacity, and it is expected to start operating in
Ube Industries is producing specialty nylon 6 copolymer
resins in Japan for export to European and North American
markets. By the additional capacity in Spain, which is closer
to these markets, Ube will achieve better responsiveness to
meet the needs from customers.
Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Co., Inc. (MGC) and
JGC Corp. have announced that performance
testing has been successfully completed and commercial
operation has started at a licensed dimethyl ether (DME)
production plant commissioned by Grillo A.G.,
using a process owned jointly by MGC and JGC. The plant is
located in an industrial park in Frankfurt, Germany.
This process uses high-performance catalysts developed by
MGC, and the process has been optimized to ensure high-purity
DME product with minimal impurities. Furthermore, it has been
established that the process can be used to manufacture DME on
a scale as large as 1 million tpy, making DME feasible for use
as fuel, and contributing to the expanding potential for the
global use of DME.
Bosnia and Herzegovinas sole oil refinery, Rafinerija Nafte
Brod, has selected the technology of UOP
LLC, a Honeywell company, and
ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Co.
(EMRE), to improve the quality of refined lubricants and fuels.
The licensing agreement is the first under a joint licensing
alliance formed by Honeywell UOP and EMRE last year.
The new technology will allow Rafinerija
Nafte Brod to improve its product quality and environmental
performance. The refiner will combine Honeywell UOP Unicracking
hydroprocessing solutions with EMREs distillate and
lubricant-dewaxing technologies to produce ultra-clean jet and
diesel fuels, and high-quality lubricant base stocks.
The Unicracking complex will include Honeywells UOP
two-stage Unicracking process integrated with EMREs MSDW
process for selective dewaxing lubricant feedstocks and EMREs MIDW
processes for dewaxing diesel feedstocks. The complex will upgrade
more than 45,000 bpsd of kerosine, diesel and vacuum gasoil feedstock into high-quality diesel
and jet fuels. It will also produce high-quality base oils that
will be used for producing Group II and Group III lubricants at
Refineria Ulia Modricha, which is part of the
oil refining production chain in Bosnia
and Herzegovina. The new complex is scheduled to start
