The next generation of interfaces for process engineering software

02.01.2013  |  Brown, S. ,  Invensys Operations Management, Houston, Texas

This article offers new insight into how the user interfaces to the next generation of process engineering software might look, how they will benefit their users and the key enablers that will make it all possible.

Keywords: [process engineering software] [user interface] [smart phone] [Ipad] [visualization] [process flow] [ aggregation] [KPIs]

Today you can point your smart phone at a bag of rice and see recipes, reviews and directions to a store that sells it at a lower price. So why can’t you point it at a distillation column and see its internal flows and properties? Or at a storage tank and see its contents and scheduled movements? This information is probably available in electronic form somewhere, so there is no technical reason why the next generation of process software shouldn’t provide engineers with the rich user experience we are growing accustomed to in our daily lives. The following pages will offer insight into how the user interfaces to the next generation of process engineering software might look, how they will benefit their users and the key enablers that will make it all possible.

Dear Dr.Brown,
It was ficinated that I become familiar with newgeneration of chemical engineer software. The question that I faced ,it will be possible to update hysys software according to features you have pointed .I mean visulization is possible for such softwares?

Best regards

Super article. Presentation is so important. How many times in the past did we miss the obvious mistake, when we had pages and pages of output to pore through from a simulation program. Displays should flag the glaring anomalies.
