Weve all heard the news reports: Shale resource developments have the potential to make the US energy independent for the first time since 1952. The long-term impact of shale resources will have far-reaching implications for everything from US energy policy to foreign policy. But we dont have to wait until sometime in the future to reap the economic benefits of shale developments relative to hydrocarbon processing, particularly shale oil.
