Gain more flexibility with special liners for reciprocating compressor cylinders

By changing only the crank-end head, piston and rod assembly, the same cylinder body can be mounted on any of the common 5-in. to 7-in. stroke compressor frames that have been manufactured in the last five decades.

Most reliability engineers with responsibilities in reciprocating compressors are familiar with replaceable cylinder liners for these positive displacement machines, as shown in Fig. 1. ACI, based in Mount Vernon, Ohio, has designed and supplied “FlexBore” inserts that are an offshoot of the cylinder liners typically incorporated in API-style process reciprocating compressors.
