Reduce moisture intrusion in pipes, tanks and other equipment

03.01.2014  |  Oslica, S.,  Pittsburgh Corning Corp., Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Once water enters the system, even at high temperatures, the insulation system can retain large quantities of water. That can then lead to accelerated heat gain or loss.

Studies have shown that up to 98% of insulation system problems are caused by moisture, which typically enters the system through the jacketing and can then be retained in the insulation system.

whether water can be used to shut down thermal power production. it is suspected & alleged that water is poured into furnace oil which in turns snaps power generation. please offer your opinion.

We have observed corrosion of heat tube of electrical skin effect heat tracing system. A small dia. pipe of 1" is welded on process pipeline. Special cable is inserted in this heat tube. This system maintains temperature of fuel oil pipe line. Whenever there is fault in system , on pulling out the faulty cable from nearest pull box , water comes out along with cable from heat tube. The source of water must be retained water in insulation as mentioned in this article. Inserting/removing cable from corroded heat tube may also cause its insulation damage.

I can tell by just looking at the photo that severe corrosion occurred due to dissimilar metals (galvanic)> poor design, material selection.
What do u think guys
