Catalyst demand to increase over the next five years

03.01.2014  |  The Freedonia Group, Inc.,  , Cleveland, Ohio

Keywords: [catalyst] [refining] [petrochemical] [polymers]

The global demand for petroleum refining, chemical synthesis and polymerization catalysts will rise 5.8 %/yr to $19.5 billion in 2016, as listed in Table 1. The growth is directly related to increasing global refining, chemical and polymer industry output (Figs. 1 and 2). Polymerization catalysts will show the greatest growth, with rapid gains in the world’s large developing economies, as well as in the Middle East (ME). Developed economies will see moderate catalyst growth. Weak demand for motor fuels will stunt refining catalyst expansion.
