Global manufacturing entered a soft period in 2012, with particular weakness in Europe and East Asia. The manufacturing sector represents the primary customer base for chemistry. The global industrial cycle, however, is beginning to turn upwards, led by the US, the UK and other nations. An improving global economy presents may benefits for the US economy, including improved business and consumer confidence, better investment opportunities and rising export demand.
