Epoxy tank liner for severe chemical environments

A 100% solids epoxy liner is available for use in transport tanks containing chemical blends or acids used in hydraulic fracturing (fracking). Series 391 Tank Armor is a new chemical-resistant formulation developed by Tnemec and tested for severe chemical immersion environments. It offers corrosion protection against hydrochloric acid and selected chemical combinations, along with toluene and xylene blends.

When spray-applied in a single, high-build coat by plural component equipment, it is possible to conduct high-voltage testing within hours of application. Then any voids can be repaired and the tank or trailer can be returned to service, usually within 24 hours to 36 hours.

Series 391 contains no solvent and is volatile organic compound compliant and abrasion-resistant. It is applied at 20-mil to 40-mil dry-film thickness (DFT). Surface preparation for immersion service requires steel to be prepared in accordance with SSPC-SP5/NACE No. 1 white metal blast cleaning with a minimum angular anchor profile of 3.0-mil for coating applications of 20.0-mil DFT or greater.
