Every month, Hydrocarbon Processing receives dozens of communications from readers around the world. These messages allow us to monitor the pulse and level of understanding, along with present and future needs of the global hydrocarbon processing industry (HPI). Earlier in 2011 and from relevant reader feedback, we realized that the different lube application methods for pumps, including oil-mist lubrication, were not always understood. In particular, it seemed that more information was needed on environmental-friendly closed oil mist systems. We encouraged an update on the subject and were pleased with a recent article by Don Ehlert.1 Mr. Ehlert authoritatively related decades of experience with 155 closed- and more than 1,100 open oil-mist lubrication systems (frequently translated as oil fog in Latin-based languages).
