LANXESS and BioAmber have partnered to develop succinic-acid-based plasticizers that are both renewable and phthalate free. Under the terms of their joint development agreement, LANXESS and BioAmber are developing a portfolio of renewable succinic-based plasticizers that can reportedly exceed the performance of phthalates at competitive prices.
BioAmber produces and sells biobased succinic acid in a 3,000 metric-ton-capacity plant in France and expects to bring on an additional 17,000 metric ton of succinic acid capacity in 2013 at a new facility in Sarnia, Canada, located on a site within LANXESS bio-industrial park.
BioAmber and LANXESS have been working together for over two years, assessing the performance and opportunities of succinate-based esters in the plasticizer market. Based on the results seen to date, LANXESS and BioAmber believe that succinic-acid-based plasticizers can deliver the sustainability, performance and safety that the global plasticizer market is seeking. Samples are now available and the companies expect to begin commercialization in 2012.

Enterprise Products Partners L.P. has begun commercial operations of a fifth natural gas liquids (NGL) fractionator at its Mont Belvieu, Texas, complex. The new unit is operating in excess of its nameplate capacity of 75,000 bpd, and increases total nameplate capacity at the partnerships Mont Belvieu facility to 380,000 bpd.
Upon completion of the sixth fractionator, total nameplate capacity of Enterprises Mont Belvieu NGL fractionation facility will increase to more than 450,000 bpd. Service at the sixth fractionator is projected to begin in early 2013, at which time the unit will be fully contracted. The additional capacity provided by the fifth and sixth fractionators will allow Enterprise to process mixed NGLs at its Mont Belvieu complex that are being diverted to Louisiana, as well as incremental volumes from the partnerships new Yoakum natural gas processing facility in Lavaca County, Texas, which is scheduled to begin operations in mid-2012.
