STAR '17: Conference kicks off with the power of digital

The 17th STAR Global Conference got underway March 6 in Berlin, Germany with plenary sessions from CD-Adapco and Siemens PLM leadership, moderated by David Vaughn of Siemens PLM.

Beginning with a video of actual and simulated car racing, Norbert Haug of Mercedes-Benz motorsport addressed the audience during his keynote address on fame and vagaries of Formula 1 racing, as well as the rise and fall of manufacturer teams. He credited use of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and other digital engineering tools in understanding and modifying race car design.

Dr. Jan Leuridan, senior VP for simulations and test solutions at Siemens PLM Software, provided on overview and demos of product development in the STAR-CCM+, STAR-CD and HEEDS portfolio of CD-Adapco tools. This session explained the benefit of being part of Siemens PLM “Simcenter” ecosystem of engineering simulation and test tools.

Jean-Claude Ercolanelli, senior VP of Product Management, provided a development road map for STAR-CCM+ version 12, new features and enhancements with 3 scheduled releases in 2017.

The remainder of the conference has parallel tracks by vertical, including energy, oil & gas, chemical process industry
