Siemens Enterprise Virtual Summit 2020 goes live, benefits industry

The Siemens Digital Enterprise Virtual Summit went live today, July 16, 2020. Speakers and subject matter experts from Siemens and Bentley share their knowledge and experiences, shedding light on what a flexible, digital industry can look like. Presenters participated from around the world and in several languages.

Partnering for the next step. The digital and technological transformation of industry is gaining momentum, and digital and automation solutions have proven particularly successful in the coronavirus crisis. They are increasingly providing the basis for flexibly and securely adapting production to meet changing market needs in the future. The varied Digital Enterprise Virtual Summit program, you can find out more about digital simulations and end-to-end integration, online and remote solutions, and cutting-edge technologies like additive manufacturing, edge and cloud computing, or Industrial 5G.

Video presentations, discussion panels, expert talks and deep dive sessions are available for on-demand viewing at your personal convenience after the live event.

The Digital Enterprise Virtual Summit is available free of charge. Register for the event on this page

Among the many sessions/panels/presentations, highlights include:

“The Digital Enterprise: Shaping industry's future together,” presented by Dr. Jan Mrosik, Chief Operating Officer Digital Industries, Siemens AG. Companies must ensure their production can meet demand and run securely at any time in the future. Dr. Mrosik details how Siemens’ Digital Enterprise portfolio is unlocking the full potential of digitalization by converging information technology and operation technology to enable the smart and comprehensive use of data for automating and digitalizing the discrete and process industries. He also shares his vision of how cutting-edge technologies are shaping industry’s future and why partnering plays a major role in shaping that future.

“Some of the things that are closest to the heart of all our customers are the availability of production facilities in these times, and the flexibility to meet demand that goes up and down. We need to cater to that,” Dr. Mrosik said. “Speed, getting products faster into the market. New business models need to augment the current business and enable further growth. Sustainability is extremely important—there will hopefully be a vaccine for COVI-19, but there is no vaccine for climate change and for global warming, and that’s a topic that will be highly important for all of us in the future.”

Dr. Mrosik spoke about the fundamentals of achieving these changes and meeting future requirements. To put those into operation requires automation and digitalization. Dr. Mrosik continued to detail Siemens’ offering: a complete digital chain and a complete, integrated digitalization approach.

“Accelerating the digitalization of plants and infrastructure.” In this panel discussion, experts from Bentley Systems and Siemens presented an interactive experience and immersive digital twin tour. Panelists included Torsten Beste, Senior Director, Siemens Digital Industries Software; Mark Biagi, Senior Director, Digital Co-Ventures, Bentley Systems; Bart Moors, Head of Comos Industry Solutions, Siemens AG; Nigel Sams, Business Development Director, Portfolio Management, Siemens AS; John Sanins, Director, Business Development, Bentley Systems; Sandra DiMatteo, Director of Marketing, Digital Twin Solutions, Bentley Systems; and Evelyne Kadel, Press Officer, Siemens AG.

In the “Artificial Intelligence—Future of Automation,” presentation, Henning Ochsenfeld, Digital Industries Customer Services, Head of Data Science & ML Engineering, Siemens AG; and Dr. Matthias Loskyll, Digital Industries Factory Automation, Director Advanced Artificial Intelligence, Siemens AG, discuss how artificial intelligence (AI) affects and influences every area of our lives. But how does AI work in a dynamic industrial environment? What benefits does it offer? And how to implement AI?

“With the help of AI in the future, we will see a new level of automation,” said Dr. Loskyll. “This may sound like science fiction to you, but this is much closer to reality that you might think.”

“Let’s start with the fields that we are already well-adapted to,” said Ochsenfeld. “If we think about anomaly detection, algorithms or lifespan predictions that basically end in predictive maintenance services and products, I think that industry is already well on track and nicely adopted to this. I see the greatest potential when we address the quality dimension. We are now addressing a lot of non-productivity items along the production process. There is great automation potential and, of course, great opportunity to reduce efforts that were previously done manually or couldn’t be done at all.”

The Siemens Enterprise Virtual Summit continues to stream live, and many of the sessions have recordings now available on-demand.
