Recent currency crises have rocked several Asian economies. Adding to the confusion is a variety of misinformation and poor analysis reflecting short-term concerns or fears. Recent currency devaluations in Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, and even Singapore "will certainly have a short run negative impact on economic growth, and could dampen growth rates of oil demand," according to a report from East-West Center (E-W), Honolulu, Hawaii.
