We've all heard of the American Petroleum Institute (API) and all it does for the industry. But, if you are like me, you may have never heard of the API EnCompass. EnCompass was created in 1954 by a group of refining companies to allow them to share access to industry information. The group was first known as the Central Abstracting and Information Services. API provided the manpower to collect and abstract articles not normally found in commercial databases, but of particular interest to the refining industry (catalysts, petrochemical processes, corrosion, fuels and lubes, process control, etc.).
