The American Petroleum Institute has reached an agreement with Berwanger, Inc. It allows the Houston-based oil, gas and petrochemical consulting firm to use API's engineering standards to create SAP R/3 compatible data structures and software. SAP is an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software package that provides enterprise-wide integration of computer network systems. This agreement is "a step toward the efficient electronic exchange of engineering information in common formats," according to API. Under this accord and a similar agreement between Berwanger and the Instrument Society of America (ISA), Berwanger will develop software products with open data architecture
