Production of plastic materials in Western Europe was about 40 million metric tons (MMton) in 1997. This represents about one-quarter of worldwide production and is on a par with output levels in the U.S. So says a report from Market Tracking Int'l. (MTI). Other highlights from the study: European plastics production grew by 6% in volume in 1997, driven particularly by an upturn in the large German industry. However, initial figures for 1998 are more cautions, reflecting uncertainty over European economic growth in the wake of worldwide financial market upheavals.
