Reasearch shows performance of a standard b = 0.50 orifice
flowmeter is not as good as the same flowmeter with a slotted
orifice plate replacing the standard orifice plate. The slotted
orifice plate has the same total open area as the standard plate
and has radial slots arranged in three concentric rings.
Experimental tests use a concentric pipe device and a swirl
generator to produce a wide range of axial velocity profiles with
and without swirl.
Data indicate that the slotted orifice flowmeter only requires
compact header configurations with very short upstream pipe lengths
and maintains accuracy in the range of 0.25% with no flow
conditioner. In addition, permanent head lo
