An innovative approach removes SOx, NOx and particulates from gas streams with minimized effluents and byproducts

The fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) unit can be a major source for sulfur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate emissions. Most countries have or will be implementing restrictions on these effluent releases to atmosphere. Wet scrubbing of flue gas with dilute sodium hydroxide or limestone solutions can effectively remove both SOx and catalyst fines. However, both techniques require continuous, large additions of the chosen neutralizing agent, and the handling and disposal of similar volumes of aqueous or solid effluents.
