Use equipment failure statistics properly I reviewed some of my work performed last year, in particular a risk study for our community water treatment plant. We used a study in support of an appeal made to Alberta Environmental Protection (AEP) regarding some inappropriate operational monitoring requirements they imposed on us in our operating approval. I referenced the article "Use equipment failure statistics properly" by Heinz P. Bloch and Fred Geitner published in the January 1999 issue of Hydrocarbon Processing, and used some failure rates contained in the accompanying tables. I led the appeal on behalf of our community, and after submitting our written "evidence,"
