It is clear that field equipment manufacturers are focusing development and marketing energy on the safety instrumented systems (SIS) market. The number of new product certification announcements in the past few months has been much higher than expected. It is really quite exciting. Announcements I have seen include: new sensors that have better diagnostics including plugged impulse line detection; product certifications for new smart valve positioners that implement more diagnostics for valves via partial valve stroke testing; new process certifications; and completed third-party failure and diagnostic analyses from major manufacturers.
