Industry analysts at CMAI (www.cmaiglobal.com) recently presented their views of where the methanol market is headed. For 2000, most anticipated supply far outdistancing demand. The world had yet to realize that climbing energy prices were putting the breaks on the economy, particularly in the U.S. The methanol industry was optimistic going into 2001. "However, the unanticipated run-up of the industry in 2000 has all but matched itself with a collapse in 2001," according to CMAI.
