As companies and projects use multinational and multiorganizational partnerships, the need for more efficient communication alternatives is increasing. Since little guidance currently exists to assist in implementing and managing virtual teams, the Construction Industry Institute (CII) has initiated a study to examine practices and develop recommendations. CII defines a virtual team as a group of people with complementary competencies executing simultaneous, collaborative work processes through electronic media without regard to geographic location. Virtual teams do not refer to traditional work sharing, electronic communications, or other forms of dividing projects that require individuals
