Apparently it is extremely difficult to change the belief of people who have emotionally invested into a position. This is caused by the complexity of interactions between belief and interest: Some people manipulate facts to influence others and thus enhance their material interests. Most people manipulate, often unconsciously, their interpretation of presented facts to preserve their emotional equilibrium. Human behavior optimizes the mix of material and emotional interests.
