Modernizing an electrical distribution system

The objective of this refinery modernization project was to engineer, design and construct a safe, reliable and modern high-voltage electrical distribution system capable of supporting the refinery's power requirements well into the 21st century. The prime objective was to provide a high-voltage substation interconnecting the refinery distribution system to a new 180 megawatt cogeneration facility and the utility company. In addition, the existing antiquated 27 kV outdoor substation built in the 1950s, which distributes power to the entire refinery, needed to be replaced.
