PVC production consumes nearly half of the chlorine consumption. North America and Europe have been the major PVC users. However, PVC demand is rising in developing nations; thus, market dynamics are changing. Domestic PVC demand (excluding exports) in North America grew 5.5% in 2002. Exports actually declined in 2002. This domestic growth was larger than forecast; however, these figures represent recovery from a very poor 2001 performance. Present market demand is expected to grow 2 - 2.5% this year. So far, PVC demand is strong. Over the next five years, demand is forecast to increase 2.5 - 3%/yr. The North American market
