A new report from market analysts at Roskill Information Services says that increasing concern over environmental pollution has resulted in growing demand for activated carbon to remove contaminants from both liquid and gas streams. In Japan, for example, production increased by 8.3% in 2001 to balance the higher rate of consumption in this end use. Global consumption is expected to grow by 4%/yr - from 750 thousand tons (Mton) in 2002 to around 840 Mton in 2005. Current installed capacity of over 800 Mtpy, planned expansions of over 30 Mtpy and potential new capacity should be sufficient to meet this new demand. World p
