Flexible plastic packaging is a very large, multibillion-dollar business within the $100 billion-plus total US packaging market. A large percentage of the total volume of thermoplastic resins produced and consumed in the US goes into packaging. The percentage is estimated by the American Plastics Council to be 29% of the total in 2001. And flexible packaging of all types constitutes close to 20% of the total packaging market for all materials. According to a report from Business Communications Company, Inc.
