Boost gas turbine performance by inlet air cooling

Use these guidelines to evaluate the options

Gas turbine performance diminishes considerably as ambient temperature rises (Fig. 1). At a given speed, air mass flow to the compressor suction is inversely proportional to absolute temperature, because the compressor suction has a constant volumetric capacity at a fixed speed. Consequently, gas turbine output decreases as ambient temperature increases. At the same time, specific fuel gas consumption (kJ/kWh, frequently termed as heat rate) increases.  Fig. 1   Gas turbine performance diminishes as ambient temperature rises.
