Recently, I saw a magazine advertisement; it was a common Ogilvy style with the headline "Safety Is Not An Option." This ad was very eye catching for anyone involved in the design and implementation of safety instrumentation systems. In addition, it described a pressure transmitter that had been certified for safety applications per IEC 61508, SIL 2 and SIL 3. This pressure transmitter was not the first safety certified unit that I had seen. However, it was the first standard pressure transmitter that is certified and sold for safety applications as well as control applications.
