Universal key performance indicators for process plants

Most plants are looking for useful key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor their performance and focus their continuous improvement efforts. KPIs may include manpower utilization, energy efficiency, equipment utilization, product yields or automation system performance. This article looks at effectiveness and automation system performance. These KPIs need to be credible, measurable and simple to understand and use. And they should bring to attention the key bad actors among a unit's control loops with respect to plant performance. What should they be? How do you get them?
