Key features of the global oil market were recently assessed by Mr. Mohammad Alipour-Jeddi, head of the Petroleum Market Analysis Department for OPEC. Presenting at a plenary session during ERTC's annual meeting in Vienna, he identified important industry challenges: supply chain tightness in OPEC and non-OPEC oil supply as well as bottlenecks in the downstream sector. With increasing refinery utilization rates in key markets, there is shrinking refining spare capacity in major refinery regions such as the US, Europe and Asia-Pacific.
