Approximately $20.7 billion will be spent on new construction projects in Western Canada in 2007, according to market research from Industrial Info Resources (IIR). The capital outlays will go toward oil and gas transmission, storage and production, refineries and some oil-sands-related mining projects. Total capital outlay will be spread across 60 projects. All projects are slated for a construction startup between January and December 2007. The $20.7 billion will be broken across six energy-related industries that not only cover conventional energy production but also include bitumen projects in the oil-sands sector, says IIR.
