Scrubbing of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) using sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution is a well-established technology. Since this process uses a solvent that cannot be easily regenerated, caustic scrubbers are most often applied in situations where small volumes of H2S must be removed. A review of various caustic-scrubber configurations and their applications highlights important criteria to consider when designing H2S scrubbers for refinery applications. Background.
