HPI spending for equipment and materials is forecast to exceed $104.1 billion worldwide in 2009. This is $7 billion more than was forecast for 2008. All three budgets: capital, maintenance and operating are expected to increase. The maintenance budget—with spending for plant turnarounds, retrofits, upgrades, and environmental and safety requirements—is projected to have the largest increase for plant equipment and materials.
