Alloy increases lifetime of thermowell tips used in petrochemical process Kanthal APMT alloy for high-temperature constructions has been successfully tested for use as thermowell tips in the petrochemical industry. Kanthal APMT is said to have a longer lifetime compared to other materials from competitors. Lifetime was measured from days up to three to six weeks. Other materials, such as HR 160, Stellite 6 and Inconel 600H, were tested in the process with limited success. Thermowell tips protect thermocouples that control the temperature of a petrochemical process with a hot and corrosive atmosphere. An end user is now using thermowells with protective tips machined from Kanthal APMT ba
