HP Industry Perspectives: ‘Best of 2015’ reflects on significant year for downstream

As 2015 comes to a close, Hydrocarbon Processing is once again examining the most popular developments from the past year with regard to the global refining, petrochemical and LNG/gas processing industries.

Refining PBF Energy’s purchase of the 155-Mbpd Torrance refinery in California (Fig. 1) from ExxonMobil proved noteworthy, since it reflected a trend by larger, integrated oil companies to shed assets, along with the newfound ability of independent refiners to expand. Unplanned maintenance issues at sites such as BP’s Whiting plant in Indiana and Shell’s refinery fire in Singapore also drove traffic.     Fig. 1.
