In February 2004, I reported on how horizontal multistage pumps could be upgraded with a high-performance plastic produced by DuPont, Vespel CR-6100. This fiber-reinforced fluoropolymer material (FRFM) provides excellent chemical resistance in refineries and in chemical processing. It offers unique and desirable high-creep resistance for seals, enhanced run-dry capability for wear rings for pumps, and easy machinability for tight-tolerance parts like ball valve seats. Pump users have taken note, and virtually every reliability-focused user is now well acquainted with FRFM. More recently, however, the leading provider of this wear-resistant and dimensionally stable material has been investig
