Improper management of hazardous waste can pose serious legal and regulatory liabilities to a company. Depending on the nature of hazardous waste mismanagement, penalties can be significant and even result in jail time for managers. Administrative, civil and criminal penalties under the hazardous waste regulations exist, and astute managers recognize the importance of control and administrative systems for ensuring compliance. Beyond compliance, they also see opportunities to improve the bottom line by utilizing cost-effective management of hazardous waste.
