This special installment of Global Project Data focuses on the global refining sector. The Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions account for roughly half of active refining projects around the globe. New project announcements have dropped since April, but have leveled off this month. Just as new project announcements have decreased year-over-year (y-o-y), the refining sector has also witnessed a decline in new project announcements of about 23% y-o-y. The main reasons for this negative trend lie in an oversupplied fuels market, as well as in oil-exporting countries delaying or canceling projects due to a drop in oil export revenues.
