Editorial Comment: IRPC EurAsia—A roadmap to advancing ideas

According to the editors of Hydrocarbon Processing, the downstream processing industry will witness substantial growth in new refining, petrochemical and gas processing/LNG capacities over the next several years.

According to the editors of Hydrocarbon Processing, the downstream processing industry will witness substantial growth in new refining, petrochemical and gas processing/LNG capacities over the next several years. This growth is detailed in the publication’s HPI Market Data 2019. In total, Hydrocarbon Processing forecasts that the HPI’s capital, maintenance and operating budgets will reach $375 B in 2019.

In 2019, Hydrocarbon Processing forecasts that capital spending will reach more than $160 B. Capital spending should increase substantially from the previous year due to several factors:

  • Major grassroots and refining expansion buildouts in the Middle East and Asia-Pacific regions
  • Massive capital investments in additional petrochemical capacity in Asia, the Middle East and the US
  • The continued buildout of LNG export capacity in the US, as well as capital-intensive LNG import projects in countries such as China and India.
  • Asia, the Middle East and the US are the leading regions in projects activity throughout the forecast period. According to Hydrocarbon Processing’s Construction Boxscore Database, these three regions account for 65% of total active HPI market share, as well as 70% of total capital spending.

The industry’s assets are built upon decades of proven technologies to produce the products that advance modern life for billions of people. However, the countless tons of steel that make up these processing facilities are nothing without the people that operate and maintain them. It is these people and technologies that we celebrate in the pages of Hydrocarbon Processing and at the international technical events we host.

In fact, many of our readers have participated in one of our events, either as an attendee or as a presenter. Your insights into advancements in the downstream processing industry are most notably celebrated at Hydrocarbon Processing’s International Refining and Petrochemical Conference (IRPC).

IRPC EurAsia

To showcase the advancements in refining and petrochemical operations and technology, delegates from around the world will converge in Helsinki, Finland, in early June 2019 for IRPC EurAsia. Supported by Neste, the event will provide a valuable forum for refining and petrochemical innovators and practitioners to share their knowledge and expertise with industry peers, as well as hear current and future business strategies from leading industry professionals.

If you have an innovative technology to share with your industry peers, IRPC EurAsia welcomes your abstract. The event will focus on crucial topics such as:

  • Biofuels/alternative fuels
  • Digital transformation
  • Clean fuels/fuels of the future
  • New transportation technologies
  • IMO regulations
  • Catalysts
  • Refinery-petrochemical integration
  • Economics/financing, policy/regulations
  • Process controls, instrumentation and automation
  • Project management.
