Russia's Volgograd oil refinery partially recovers after drone attack

Russia's Volgograd oil refinery, which had halted operations following a Ukrainian drone attack on February 3, has partially resumed processing, three industry sources said on Wednesday.

One of the sources said the plant, controlled by Lukoil oil major and located in southern Russia, restarted crude distillation unit CDU-5 on February 10.

"The primary units are gradually returning to operations. The capacity is increasing. More than half of the capacity is actually in operation," another source said.

Lukoil did not reply to a request for comment.

One more source said refining throughput at the plant exceeded on Monday 20,000 tonnes, or 60% of its average throughput in January.

In 2024, the Volgograd refinery processed 13.7 MM tonnes of oil, or 5.1% of the total refining volume at Russian refineries.

It produced 1.9 MMt of gasoline, or 4.3% of Russia's total, 6 MMt of diesel, 6.9% of total, and 700,000 t of fuel oil, or 1.8% of the total.
