SAO PAULO (Reuters) — Brazil’s Copersucar, one of the world’s largest ethanol merchants, and BP’s Brazil unit said on Thursday they will form a 50–50 logistics JV in the country.
PARIS (Reuters) — Gasoline containing up to 10% of ethanol has become the top-selling petrol in France, its largest market in the European Union, helped by a tax break that made the crop-based fuel more attractive to drivers, French ethanol producers said on Tuesday.

CHICAGO (Reuters) — A US glut of fuel-grade ethanol has major producers, including Green Plains Inc and industry pioneer Archer Daniels Midland Co, pursuing other markets and idling excess capacity in an effort to rebuild sagging margins.
Through the first six months of 2017, US weekly ethanol production averaged 1.02 MMbpd, an increase of 5% over the same period in 2016. On a weekly basis, US ethanol production set a record of 1.06 MMbpd in the week of Jan. 27, and it has averaged near or above 1 MMbpd in every week of 2017 except for a few weeks in April, when ethanol plants typically undergo seasonal maintenance. If ethanol production remains relatively high through the second half of the year, as EIA’s Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO) expects, 2017 will set a new record for annual fuel ethanol production.
Fuel ethanol production capacity in the United States reached 15.5 Bgal/yr, or 1.01 MMbpd, at the beginning of 2017, according to EIA's most recent US Fuel Ethanol Plant Production Capacity report. Total capacity of operable ethanol plants increased by about 4%—or by more than 600 MMgal/yr—between January 2016 and January 2017.
